Constitution of Japan
The Constitution of Japan (日本国憲法, nihonkoku kenpou) is the current constitution of Japan. It came into effect on May 3rd, 1947.

Description
History
This constitution was written as an amendment to the earlier Constitution of the Empire of Japan.
The new constitution came into effect on May 3rd, 1947. An upper house was elected preemptively on April 20th. The diet which had been elected on April 25th under the old constitution remained in place.
