1947 House of Councillors Elections

The 1947 House of Councillors elections were the first upper house elections in Japan following World War II. These were also the first elections held under the new constitution. Exceptionally though, all 250 seats were up for this election, whereas a normal upper house election only sees about half of the seats up.

History

A general election was held just days later on April 25th, although technically under the rules of the old constitution.
