Office of Management and Budget
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is an executive office.
Composition
The office is led by a director, deputy director, and deputy director for management. These positions are all appointed by the president with Senate approval.
In addition, the administrators of the offices of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Federal Procurement Policy, and Office of Federal Financial Management are appointed with Senate approval.
History
In 1921, the Budget and Accounting Act established a Bureau of the Budget under the Treasury.
The office was moved to the Executive Office in 1939 due to the budgetary stresses of the war.
Nixon reorganized the office into the modern Office of Management and Budget.
