William C. Dawson
William C. Dawson was a States' Rights and later a Whig politician, congressman, and senator for Georgia.

History
Dawson served as clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1821 to 1833.
For 1834-1835, he was elected to the Georgia Senate.
He briefly fought in the Creek War and Second Seminole War.
Following the death of Coffee, Dawson was elected to fill the Congressional seat. (At this time, Georgia elected all 9 members from a state-wide at-large district.) For this special election he ran as the States' Rights nominee, but would run as a Whig in subsequent elections.
In 1841, Dawson ran for the Georgian gubernatorial seat. After losing to McDonald, he also resigned from Congress.
He was elected to serve as Georgia's senator for 1849-1855.

Dawson voted in favor of the 1850 compromise.
