United States Department of State

The United States Department of State (DOS) is an executive department of the federal government. It administers most of the United States diplomatic apparatus, including the Foreign Service, and advises the executive and legislative branches on diplomatic matters.

Composition

The department is led by a secretary, deputy secretary, and deputy secretary for Management and Resources. (The final position is analogous to a COO for DOS.) Several undersecretaries and assistant secretaries oversee offices.

USAID reports directly to the secretary.
