United States Department of Health and Human Services
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is an executive department of the federal government. It oversees public health policy and administers several government services.
Composition
The department is led by a secretary and deputy secretary. Offices are administered by assistant secretaries, principal deputy secretaries, and deputy assistant secretaries.
Offices are organized into one of six hierarchies led by:
- assistant secretary for Administration (ASA)
- assistant secretary for Financial Resources (ASFR)
- assistant secretary for Health (ASH)
- assistant secretary for Legislation (ASL)
- assistant secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE)
- assistant secretary for Public Affairs (ASPA)
Except for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), HHS does not abbreviate offices and lower secretary positions.
