History
A Department of Postal Administration was established in 1884. In August 1910, the Japanese annexation of Korea effectively ended the service.
Following World War II, the Ministry of Post and Communication was established to re-create and administer the postal system.
On July 1, 2000, Korea Post was established and took over all postal operations. The new agency was supervised by the Ministry of Information and Communication. In 2008, the ministry was joined with the Korean Broadcasting Commission to establish the Korea Communications Commission. It's former supervisory role was reassigned to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and then again in 2013 to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
