Description
Bruzhnevka are repeated tesselations of tall housing units designed to be dense.
As a part of the propiska system, residents did not pay rent. They were only charged for utilities.
History
Khrushchevka were designed to be manufactured and assembled rapidly, to serve the greatest number of people. Over time, these buildings became insufficient. They were too short to serve the exploding populations of urban centers. Elevators were intentionally not available. They did not feature amenities that were increasingly available to other residential options.
The name comes from Brezhnev, as the successor to Khruschev.
