History
In 1794, the King Charles IV promulgated the Ordenanza General de Correos, Postas y Caminos which overhauled the postal system across the Spanish Empire.
Following independence, much of the Spanish system was kept in place, under the Secretariat of State. In 1824 it was transferred to the Ministry of Finance. Only on January 1st, 1884 did Mexico's First Postal Code come into effect.
In 1986, postal services were reorganized into the independent Servicio Postal Mexicano (Sepomex). In 2008, it was reformed and rebranded as Correos de México.
