Ottoman Grand Viziers

In the Ottoman Empire, grand viziers served as a parallel to prime ministers in other countries. They were appointed by and could only be deposed by the sultan.

Grand viziers usually were granted the title pasha (پاشا, alternatively basha or paşa), which would be appended to their name.
