The reason for the summit was primarily to coordinate reforms, and demonstrate a commitment to reforms, in preparation for joining [[WorldHistory/NorthAtlanticTreatyOrganization|NATO]] and the EU. More generally, these states are aligned in being post-communist democracies and socioeconomically right as compared to prevailing EU politics.
