For 1834-1835, he was elected to the '''Georgia Senate'''. He briefly fought in the [[UnitedStates/Creek|Creek War]] and [[UnitedStates/Seminole|Second Seminole War]]. Following the death of [[UnitedStates/JohnECoffee|Coffee]], Dawson was elected to fill the [[UnitedStates/HouseOfRepresentatives|Congressional]] seat. (At this time, Georgia elected all 9 members from a state-wide at-large district.)
