Thomas E. Burnside was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Burnside was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1822.
In 1827, Crawford challenged him to a duel; they had to travel into Alabama to circumvent Georgian state law prohibiting duels. Burnside was shot and killed on January 15, 1828.
