History
The Stockbridge tribe was composed of members of the Mohican and Wappinger nations that resided in Stockbridge and converted to Christianity. Following a Revolutionary War battle that became known as the Stockbridge Massacre, they migrated west and settled on the Oneida reservation.
The Munsee were a tribe of the Lenape nation. They also migrated to the Oneida reservation in the early 1800s.
The Stockbridge and Munsee together agreed to voluntary removal to a small reservation in Bartelme and Red Springs, Wisconsin. This territory was ceded from the Menominee.
