History
The Osage settled across the river basins of the Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas. The principle settlement was Neosho, on a tributary of the Missouri itself called the Osage River.
In 1808, the Osage chiefs signed the Treaty of Fort Clark. This drew a line from the fort straight south to the Arkansas. All land east of this line and north of the Arkansas (following it all the way to the Mississippi) was ceded. This territory was used as the destination for nearly all tribal removals.
