History

The Mandan nation settled on the upper Missouri.

By 1800s, the nation was reduced to two towns: Nupta and Mitutak. Wars with the neighboring Sioux, Assiniboin, and Arikara nations had devastated the tribes.


Composition

The spiritual leaders of the Mandan nation were the Okeepa Makers.
