Sensitive Compartmented Information

Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) is information protected by secure access protocols.

Definition

Information gathered from the intelligence community can pose substantial risks if disclosed. Therefore, secure access protocols are implemented. The core idea is that this information is shared on a 'Need To Know' basis only.

A building that is secured to handle SCI is labeled a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).

SCI is distinct from the classification system. Classified information that does not call for secure access protocols is known as collateral classified information.
