Description
Section 508
The Rebailitation Act was amended in 1986 to add Section 508, which specifically addresses accessibility in electronic and information technology.
The Federal Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility and Compliance Act of 1998 replaced Section 508. Federal agencies and contractors were required to comply with the requirements.
After years of study and review, in 2017, the U.S. Access Board published refreshed rules for Section 508 (and Section 255 of the Communication Act). These updates brought Section 508 up to WCAG 2.0.
