United States Department of State

The United States Department of State (DoS) is an executive department of the federal government. DoS administers most of the United States diplomatic apparatus, including the Foreign Service, and advises the executive and legislative branches on diplomatic matters.


Composition

The department is led by the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

Several undersecretaries and assistant secretaries oversee subject area offices.

The Foreign Service is overseen by a director general.
