The United States Department of Labor (DOL) is an executive department of the federal government. DOL administers and enforces occupational, wage, and unemployment laws and programs.

History
An executive bureau with jurisdiction over occupational law dates back to 1888. The cabinet-level Department of Commerce and Labor existed between 1903 and 1913. It was then split into the modern DOC and DOL.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics dates back to 1884, but it was originally established within the Department of the Interior.
