Defense Contract Management Agency

The Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) is a DOD agency that overseas government contracts.

Composition

The agency is overseen by the undersecretary of Acquisition and Sustainment.

The agency is led by a director who conventionally is an officer of the active duty military, although acting directors are often not.

History

The Defense Contract Management Command (DCMC) was founded in 1990 as a component of DLA, centralizing all responsibilities relating to government contracts.

In 2000, the agency was restructured as an agency independent of the DLA and renamed Defense Contract Management Agency.

Programs

The agency serves as the administrative contracting officer (ACO) for all DOD contracts. However it delegates auditing to the DCAA.
