Liz Truss

Liz Truss was a Conservative politician, member of the Parliament, and prime minister of the United Kingdom.

History

Truss was elected to the Parliament in 2010 representing South West Norfolk. She campaigned for Remain in the 2015 Brexit referendum.

Truss defeated Sunak in the September 2022 Conservative leadership contest. Notably, she was formally appointed prime minister only two days before Elizabeth II died.

She promptly announced an extremely unpopular platform of tax cuts, which triggered a rapid collapse of her government. She was forced to resign on her 50th day in office; the shortest prime ministry in history.

Truss lost her seat in the 2024 election.
