Slovenian Parliament
The Slovenian Parliament is the national legislature of Slovenia.
National Assembly
The primary component of the Slovenian Parliament is the National Assembly (Državni zbor). In many cases, the National Assembly is referred to as the parliament.
88 members of parliament are elected by party list proportional representation. They serve 4 year terms.
2 members are separately elected to represent the Hungarian and Italian minorities of Slovenia. These two have a veto power over matters of their corresponding minorities.
National Council
The lesser component of the the Slovenian Parliament is the National Council (Državni svet).
Rather than serving any legislative purpose, the National Council represents a variety of interest groups.
The 40 members of parliament are not directly elected.
