History
Novocherkassk is the cultural capital of the Don Cossack Host, or Donians.
Following the October Revolution, Denikin and Lavr Kornilov fled here to form the Volunteer Army. The Don Army also coalesced here, and backed the emergent Don Republic was administered from here.
