CentOS
CentOS was an operating system based on Fedora, designed to be ABI-compatible with RHEL.
During the RHEL 8 release cycle, Red Hat took control of the CentOS project and re-routed the team into CentOS Stream, a rolling-release distribution that is now actually upstream of RHEL. CentOS 8 was the final released version.
While CentOS Stream is the direct successor project, it is inherently dissimilar. See Rocky Linux or Alma Linux instead.
