Yoshihiko Noda

Yoshihiko Noda (野田 佳彦) was prime minister of Japan.

History

Noda was elected to the diet in 1993 for the Japan New Party. He then transferred to the New Frontier Party in 1994.

DPJ

Noda joined the Democratic Party of Japan in 1996.

Naoto Kan announced his resignation in August 2011. Noda beat rivals including Seiji Maehara (前原 誠司) in the ensuing leadership contest and became prime minister on September 2nd.

Noda dissolved the diet on November 16th, 2012 and scheduled general elections for December 16th. The DPJ would lose the vast majority of its seats and usher in the return of the LDP. Noda resigned as a result.

Democratic Party

Following the merger into the Democratic Party, Noda served as the party's secretary-general.

Due to the poor results in the 2017 Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly elections, both Noda and party leader Renhou Saitou (斉藤 蓮舫) resigned.
