Yoshihide Suga (菅 義偉) was prime minister of Japan.

History
Suga was elected to the diet in 1996 for the LDP.
Suga served as Abe's chief cabinet secretary for nine years. He is the longest serving chief cabinet secretary by a factor of two. In 2019 he announced the new imperial name Reiwa.
In 2020, Abe resigned due to a relapse of his ulcerative colitis. Suga was the clear favorite in the leadership contest and became prime minister on September 14th.
With a party leadership contest scheduled for September 29th, 2021, and amid rapidly declining approval rates, Suga announced his resignation on September 3rd. Fumio Kishida won the contest and succeeded Suga as prime minister.
