History

In 2001, the ministries of home affairs and posts and telecommunications (郵政省) were merged, along with the Management and Coordination Agency (総務庁). These were reformed into a ministry of public management, home affairs, posts, and telecommunications.

In 2004, after the Postal Services Agency had been privatized into Japan Post, the ministry was renamed to the ministry of internal affairs and communications.
