In 2015, '''Touru Hashimoto''' led a breakaway group from the [[Japan/JapanInnovationParty2014|Japan Innovation Party]] to found '''Initiatives from Osaka'''. After that original party was merged into the [[Japan/DemocraticParty2016|Democratic Party]] in 2016, this new group adopted that identity.

The party enjoys significant success in and around Osaka, but remains a minor party in national politics.
