The Democratic Party for the People is a political party in Japan.
Platform
History
Ahead of the 2017 elections, the Democratic Party fragmented. One of these breakaway groups was Kibou no Tou (希望の党, Party of Hope).
On May 7th, 2018, the Democratic Party and Kibou no Tou re-merged to found the Democratic Party for the People. The two party leaders co-led for an interim period. A leadership contest in September elected Yuuichirou Tamaki of the latter as the first permanent leader.
In April 2019, the Liberal Party (another breakaway group) also re-merged.
On August 19th, 2020, the party announced a merger with the Constitutional Democratic Party. Most members transferred, however Tamaki and 14 other MPs remained. They retain the name and brand of the party.
