Szekesfehervar

Szekesfehervar is a city in Hungary.

History

Szekesfehervar was established as a trade junction under a variety of names: Gorsium, Herculia, Alba Regalis (or Alba Regia), and Alba Civitas.

St. Stephen I granted town rights and eventually moved the capital here. A basilica was built here during his reign, and would be used for the coronation of Hungarian monarchs up to Ottoman conquest.
