Anjou

The Capetian house of Anjou (alt. Capetian Angevins) was founded by Charles I in the 13th century. Philip II had seized the county of Anjou from the Plantagenets earlier that century. Louis VIII granted the counties of Anjou and Maine to his youngest son, Charles.

Charles' granddaughter, Margaret, was countess in her own right. She married Charles, count of Valois, and her counties became the possession of the house of Valois.

Valois

The house of Valois was a cadet branch of the Capetians founded by Charles, count of Valois. He was a younger son of Philip III.
