Parliament of the Czech Republic
The Parliament (officially the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Parlamentu České republiky) is the national legislature of Czechia.
Chamber of Deputies
The Chamber of Deputies (Poslanecká sněmovna) is the lower legislative house. It is composed of 200 members; it is led by a president and several deputy presidents.
Members are elected by party list proportional representation. Members serve four-year terms.
The prime minister is elected from the Chamber of Deputies.
The Chamber of Deputies can be dissolved by the president (except in the last three months of a term) and early elections must be held within 60 days. Generally this only happens following a vote of no confidence in the government.
The Chamber of Deputies can override a Senate veto with a simple majority vote.
The Chamber of Deputies alone votes on supply and confidence.
Senate
The Senate (Senát) is the upper legislative house. It is composed of 81 senators; it is led by a president and 4 vice-presidents (who are themselves still senators).
Senators are elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post, with a runoff election if no single candidate receives a simple majority. Senators serve six-year terms.
Every two years, a third of the Senate's seats are up for election.
The Senate has a sort of veto power over the Chamber of Deputies, though it can easily be overridden.
