Communist Party of Czechoslovakia

The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) (Komunistická strana Československa) was a political party in Czechoslovakia.

Platform

KSČ was a Comintern-affiliated party.

History

KSČ was a major power in the National Front coalition of the Third Republic. While Beneš served as president, party leader Gottwald served as prime minister.

Ministers from all other coalition parties resigned in February 1948, leaving KSČ in full control. Elections in March and the Ninth-of-May Constitution they produced cemented this. Until 1989, the party leader was the effective head of state.
