Civic Forum

Civic Forum (OF) (Občanské fórum) was a political party in Czechoslovakia.

The affiliated Slovak party was called Public Against Violence (VPN) (Verejnosť proti násiliu).


Platform

Civic Forum largely had no platform; it was an opposition movement against the KSČ.


History

Civic Forum was established in Czechia by Havel for the Velvet Revolution in 1989.

The KSČ government resigned following protests in November. Havel was elected president in December and an OF majority was elected to Parliament the following June.

The party fragmented in 1991 and disappeared from Parliament following elections in 1992.
