The [[WorldHistory/RomanEmpire|Romans]] rebuilt the city as ''Flumen''. After the city was burned down by [[WorldHistory/HunnicEmpire|Attila the Hun]], Croats resettled the area as ''Rika svetoga Vida'' (literally "the river of Saint Vitus"). From 925 the city was a part of the [[Croatia/Monarchs#Kingdom_of_Croatia|Croatia]]. It is commonly grouped with the [[WorldHistory/DalmatianCityStates|Dalmatian city states]]. In 1446 Rijeka was sold to [[WorldHistory/HolyRomanEmpire/FrederickIII|Frederick III]].
