Rab
Rab is a town in Croatia, on an island also named Rab.
History
The island has been inhabited by Liburnians. The Greeks called it Arba. Octavian Augustus built fortifications and named the city Municipium.
Rab developed as a city state under the protection of the Byzantine Empire. It submitted to Venetian suzerainity in 1000, then was conquered by Louis I of Hungary in 1358. The Republic of Venice reclaimed the city in 1409.
Following a brief Napoleonic conquest, Dubrovnik was ceded to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
