The president (''predsjednik'') has significant powers, but the [[Croatia/PrimeMinisters|prime minister]] is the ''de facto'' head of state. Furthermore, the president is required to resign all other political roles, including membership in or leadership of a party.

A president is elected by popular vote, with a runoff election if necessary, to a 5 year term. The office has a 2 term limit.
