Description
Consider an unknown to approximate. This is an estimand, and the approximation of it is an estimate.
An estimator is the procedure of arriving at the estimate. The components of an estimator are the estimand, a set of observed data, and a calculation. The convention is to notate an estimand as θ and an estimator as θ̂.
